Pedro Friedeberg Exceptional Surrealist Carved Clock Sculpture, Mexico 1970s

Pedro Friedeberg (b. 1937)

An exceptional, dreamlike Astroclock sculpture by Mexican Surrealist master Pedro Friedeberg, in carved and gilt mahogany with enameled metal. Twelve wryly placed carved gilt hands for the hours radiate from a polished mahogany face, with a second row of five larger sculpted hands delicately supporting astrological symbols. The whole rests on sinuous half-gilt tripod legs culminating in Friedeberg’s trademark arched feet.

Mexico, 1970’s.
