Exceptional Sideboard in Bois de Rose, Marble, and Brass; Italy, 1950’s

$34,500

Italy, 1950’s

A large and exceptional sideboard in rosewood with a floating white marble top and brass detailing. The cabinet features an elegantly soaring, three-dimensionally sculpted marble plateau with skillfully carved divots that gracefully descend to meet the legs. The shelf’s ridge is sculpted to flow like a wave across the underside of the marble, waxing and waning to culminate in a razor-sharp edge. The dip in the marble carving over each leg is particularly beautiful and difficult to accomplish. The credenza is raised on six sharply angled, tapering legs incised with slim brass rods and elevated on ovoid brass sabots. Four doors open to reveal a contrasting interior in blond fruitwood, with a shelf on one side and drawers on the other. Can also be used as a dresser.
