Ico Parisi: Stunning Oval Dining Table in Elm, Glass, and Bronze, Italy 1950s
Ico Parisi (1916 – 1996) and Luisa Parisi (1914 – 1990)
A stunning and highly unusual dining table by visionary Italian designers Ico and Luisa Parisi, in blond elm with significant bronze detailing and a glass top. Four tapering, Y-shaped legs, joined by a rounded and carefully modeled bronze crossbar, are poised at dynamic angles supporting an oval top. Each beautifully carved line finds its echo in another: the Y of the legs in the X of the crossbar, the oval of the elm base in the oval of the glass, the tapered finials at the tops of the legs in the narrowing feet. Taken together, the whole is a sculptural masterpiece, each element perfectly balanced.
This rare piece, a model of organic abstraction, bursts with grace and vitality, and is a harbinger of the continuous experimentation and dedication to beauty and craft which will inform the rest of the Parisis’ career.
