Imposing Modernist Pair of Leather and Walnut Club Chairs, Italy 1970s

$24,000

Italy, 1970s

A massive, voluptuously comfortable pair of geometric club chairs in walnut and black leather. A three-paneled rectangular armature in walnut veneer, with rounded edges and fluid cut-outs along the sides and back, wraps around a deep, padded seat in buttery soft leather. The seats’ strong, boxy lines, as if excavated from a colossal leather block which nonetheless levitates a foot above the ground, contrast with the undulating carve-outs and curved angles of the interlocking bentwood frames, infusing a playful lightness and balance into an otherwise imposing design.
