$35,000

Pierre Jeanneret (1896  1967)

A rare and spectacular four-drawer desk and armchair in teak by Pierre Jeanneret for the administrative buildings in Chandigarh, India, landmarks of modern architecture. The desk has a gracefully tapered X-shaped leg, leather inset top, four drawers with asymmetrical aluminum-inlaid crescent moon pulls, and a storage compartment concealed by a door on the reverse. A model of economical design, this stately, iconic piece makes excellent use of negative space and elevates functionality to an art form.
