Gio Ponti Exceptional Asymmetric Cabinet in Mahogany, Glass, and Skai, Italy 1950’s
Gio Ponti (1891 – 1979)
An exceptional and rare asymmetrical credenza by modernist master Gio Ponti, in mahogany with five drawers angled subtly outwards, a glass writing desk, polished brass hardware, and the original cream-colored skai door with brass key concealing a single shelf. The sideboard is designed so that each element interlocks seamlessly: the slanted planes of the oblique drawers and door intersect in a gentle frontal peak, to which respond the delicately curved shelf and careful modeling of the contoured sides and rounded, carved, tapering legs, in an equipoise of angles and curves.
